[Openswan Users] xl2tpd and linux native pppol2tp kernel module

Is it still the case that xl2tpd doesn't work with the pppol2tp (now
l2tp_ppp) kernel module included in linux since 2.6.23?  Is it known
what would need to be done to make it compatible?  It seems the module
now requires a tunnel with session_id and peer_session_id equal 0
first, but I haven't gotten any further than that.
