[Openswan Users] Newbie question: can Host-To-Host VPN work over WAN?

Yes. that is what it is desiged for.

No other than unencrytped connections. Depending on your setup you havv to add 
max 1 ms for the encryption to the 80 ms latency of the transatlantic 
connection.
