Not sure if pppd was upgraded too or not, but what I'm 100% sure is that
I've downgraded ONLY xl2tpd from 1.2.6 to 1.2.0 to make it work again.

That's what I thought too.

I haven't had the time to test for the workaround suggested earlier
today, however.
