[Openswan Users] cryptographic helper failed: Bad file descriptor

Today I got this error when trying to bring up a connection that was working before:

Jun 18 09:53:38 quartic pluto[22969]: cryptographic helper(22969) read(2744)=1720 failed: Bad file descriptor
Jun 18 09:53:38 quartic pluto[22958]: closing helper(2) pid=22969 fd=8 exit=0

This happened right after reaching STATE_MAIN_R3, and the negotiation stalled at this point.

I'm using Debian OpenSWAN 1:2.4.12+dfsg-1 on an OpenVZ host with kernel 2.6.24.
