I have finished all my tests and I can report that even with Nat-T (as
Nate suggested) I can not get this router to let my ipsec connection.

This router is sold as an IPsec passthroug and there is no way to
disable this feature (which seems to be broken).

So, avoid the SMC 2804WBR (part number 751.7437 with latest firmware) if
you have to use ipsec with it. (else it is a good router, it's been up
for months).
