On Linux, this is more than trivial because of the way it (the ISC dhcp
client at least) utilizes the interface.  IIRC, it refuses to operate on
a PPP interface or something similar.

AFAIU, Mac clients just do this DHCPINFORM automatically.

I don't know about any other clients.
