[Openswan Users] xl2tpd not responding - why?

Troy,
Not sure if it will make a difference, but I have an "ipsec saref = yes" in my xl2tpd.conf file. That helps xl2tpd to work with NATted IPsec clients if I remember correctly.

Subject: [Openswan Users] xl2tpd not responding - why?
<snip>
So, it seems to me that the IPsec part of the connection is working --
if that's not the case, I'd love to hear what I'm doing wrong.
That being said, my xl2tpd config is as follows:
[global]
auth file = /etc/xl2tpd/l2tp-secrets
debug tunnel = yes
[lns default]
ip range = 192.168.1.64-192.168.1.127
local ip = 192.168.1.1
require chap = yes
refuse pap = yes
require authentication = yes
name = pilot
ppp debug = yes
pppoptfile = /etc/xl2tpd/options.l2tpd
/etc/xl2tpd/options.l2tpd is:
pcp-accept-local
ipcp-accept-remote
ms-dns 192.168.1.1
auth
crtscts
idle 1800
mtu 1200
mru 1200
nodefaultroute
debug
lock
proxyarp
connect-delay 5000
When I run 'xl2tpd -D'
the only output I ever see is:
xl2tpd[20075]: setsockopt recvref[22]: Protocol not available
xl2tpd[20075]: This binary does not support kernel L2TP.
xl2tpd[20075]: xl2tpd version xl2tpd-1.2.6 started on pilot PID:20075
xl2tpd[20075]: Written by Mark Spencer, Copyright (C) 1998, Adtran, Inc.
xl2tpd[20075]: Forked by Scott Balmos and David Stipp, (C) 2001
xl2tpd[20075]: Inherited by Jeff McAdams, (C) 2002
xl2tpd[20075]: Forked again by Xelerance (www.xelerance.com) (C) 2006
xl2tpd[20075]: Listening on IP address 0.0.0.0, port 1701
I'm suspicious it's a firewall configuration problem - no packets seem
to be getting to xl2tpd at all. But I wanted to check to see if there
was anything else that needed to be fixed first.
Thanks,
--
