atoid() has been extended a lot since I had anything to do with it.  The 
code in question is after my time.

It looks as if @#x is for specifying a key ID in hex and @[x] is for 
specifying a key ID in ASCII or ISO-8859-1 or something like that.

None of this make it onto the wire as far as I know, so correct parsing 
shouldn't exactly effect interop.
