Aha.  Once I get a PSK and set it up, am I correct in that I have to
initiate the connection with: 

ipsec whack  --name=host-to-host --xauthname=Some_username
--xauthpass=somepassword --initiate


Or can I simply use the "ipsec auto --up host-to-host" command
