Hi,
Forget ssh, focus on interfaces, routing things.
Whatch what's appened when openswan is installed but off.
-local ping
-interfaces ?
-iptables rules?
-routing tables?
-watch the corresponding file in /etc/rc2.d/
Good luck.
Laurent.

Probably the problem is with routing. Sometimes ipsec sets a double
default route causing all connections to drop.
I advise you not to use debian packages but to install from sources.
It's much better using KLIPS (when it works in fact ;P)
