Yes, an AMAZING difference. The VPN'd laptop picks up Samba as soon as the
VPN comes up, and access to machines on the 10.0.0.0/16 subnet is
pretty much instantaneous.

The only problem I've got now is that if the connection drops uncleanly, a
route is left in the routing table that points 10.1.0.16 to ipsec0. Until
that route is deleted, the IPSec tunnel between 10.1.0.16 and the server
can't be re-established...
