Sometimes KLIPS, sometimes NETKEY. (klips is stable on amd64).
Hoever, I do not do firewalling on that machine (nor on any of my netkey
boxes)

what does ipsec verify say?

Try disabling NAT and/or firewalling. Does it work then?
