Unfortunately the native IPsec implementation included with Windows 2000/XP
does not support IPsec compression (IPCOMP). That registry hack was meant
for another client, the MSL2TP client for Windows 9x/Me/NT, so it does
not work on Windows 2000/XP.

Perhaps PPP compression is your best bet after all, if you don't want to
change things too much. Unfortunately, the MPPC compression supported by
Windows 2000/XP is patent encumbered. Be glad you're not in the EU (yet)
so you don't have those stupid software patent laws! :-)
