A look in my magic crystal ball seems to indicate you are using 
kernel-2.6.12-rc1 from the yet-to-be-released Debian-sarge with 
openswan-2.3.0.

If this is anything but correct, then please post your actual configuration 
with your ipsec.conf and the relevant parts from your logfile (in most cases 
auth.log).

In other words: We need more information to help you.
