[Openswan Users] newbie question

Hello
I'm quite new to Openswan. (and creating VPNs in general :))
I'm Configuring-testing VPN between Openswan on Fedora Core 3 and Checkpoint
FW1.
Just a simple question, is it bad to test a connection when boxes are
connected to the same hub/switch.
I have a Cisco router to what 8 port switch is connected and FW1 and
Openswan boxes are connected to that switch also. Might it be the problem,
that Openswan can not establish connection?
