This is a kind of a release announcement. It is intentionally not 
posted to the users@ list, because we are not announcing code that
should be considered by regular users.

There are four messages that will follow this message, and I wanted to
make sure that everyone knew they were all coming.

      1) announcement of 2.5.00 code base 
      2) announcement of 3.0.xx code base (OCF)
      3) explanation of revisions to release numbering 
      4) roadmap for future 3.x releases
