[Openswan dev] Format error in /proc/net/ipsec_eroute ?

I have Openswan Version 2.1.2rc5 on a machine running Redhat 9
with a 2.4.20-31.9 kernel set up to look much like a Windows client
using l2tp. Thus it has
 rightprotoport=17/1701
 leftprotoport=17/1701
in its ipsec.conf.

This provokes the following error message from pluto:
 May 19 16:34:45 port pluto[2682]: INTERNAL ERROR: /proc/net/ipsec_eroute
  line 1 source subnet field malformed: non-ipv6 address may not contain `:'
and /proc/net/ipsec_eroute contains
 774  172.31.16.250/32:1701 -> 172.31.16.252/32:1701 => tun0x1002 at 172.31.16.252:17

Is this simply a cosmetic problem or a symptom of something more serious?
